It’s hard to believe that a mere 100 years ago all farming was done organically. Fast forward to the present day and industrialised farming has well and truly taken over. We cannot continue to ignore the many reasons to choose Organic foods.
Non Organic produce are fertilised with nitrogen or ammonium nitrate and are made from burning large amounts of natural gas. Organophosphate pesticides, another fertiliser was developed initially as a nerve agents in chemical warfare. Organic foods on the other hand contain zero chemical solvents or additives and are not genetically modified.
Many of the synthetic substances found in non organic foods do not have long term studies to confirm their safety. Several studies show that organic foods contain more nutrients than nonorganic foods. Organic farming starts with the nourishment of the soil that naturally leads to nourishment of the plants making a tastier produce.
The large scale use of fossil fuel powered tractors, nitrogen fertiliser and pesticides over the course of 100 years have decimated our wild plants, insects and affected our animals, water, forests and atmosphere. What are these deadly pollutants doing to our precious bodies?
A recent study by Hyland, C et al., looked at the effect of an Organic Diet over the course of 7 days. The researchers discovered that there was a significant reduction (upto 70%) of pesticides found in the urine of both adults and children that contributed to the study.
